Native app in development
Website translation & localization for Shopify
Connect the GoLocal Shopify app embed in three steps: copy a public project key, choose a theme, then save and test its storefront preview.
Native GoLocal! app
Preview: the native app is not publicly distributed yet. Request access before subscribing for this installation.
Translate public headings, navigation, labels and dynamic content. Installation depends on your platform, plan, theme and access to the top-level page. A code recipe is not a claim that a native marketplace app is released.
Tested on the documented demo, not a guarantee for every theme, extension or private page. Follow the acceptance checklist on your own staging site.
1. Connect Shopify in three steps
Connect the GoLocal Shopify app embed in three steps: copy a public project key, choose a theme, then save and test its storefront preview.
Open your GoLocal project and copy its public key
This flow requires the installed GoLocal native preview app. If it is missing, request access before buying a plan specifically for Shopify; the setup links do not install it. In GoLocal, create or open your own Website project, register the storefront domain and choose Shopify as the installation platform. Copy that project’s public key, never an AI provider, Shopify Admin API or database secret.
GoLocal → Projects → Website → Shopify → Copy public project key
Choose the Shopify store and theme
In the project’s three-step panel, enter the permanent store.myshopify.com address. A single matching registered address can be filled in automatically. Use the theme chooser first; a draft is recommended. To open GoLocal directly on a draft, paste that draft’s normal browser editor address into the draft field. No numeric theme-ID lookup is needed. Check the Draft label in Shopify; a pasted URL alone does not prove this.
Shopify store address (.myshopify.com) → Choose a theme in Shopify → App embeds
Review the native settings, save and test
Open GoLocal Localization in App embeds. Paste the public key, review customer-content exclusions and the displayed external-service consent, enable the embed and save the chosen theme. Open its actual storefront preview: the translation widget does not run inside the theme editor. Saving a draft does not publish it. Test languages, forms, product controls and mobile layout before publishing. Do not add a second loader in theme.liquid.
GoLocal Localization → Public GoLocal project API key → consent → Save → storefront preview
Store address is not the same as storefront domain
The .myshopify.com address prepares Shopify admin links; entering it does not register a domain or verify ownership. Register every storefront hostname you actually test in GoLocal, including the .myshopify.com preview hostname if used alongside a custom domain. Signed iframe URLs, access tokens and other-store editor addresses are rejected. If the admin alias differs, choose the theme in Shopify and open App embeds manually. Opening a link is not a successful connection check.
The native app is free to install; translation uses a separate GoLocal service plan and its limits. Native preview access is not a public App Store listing or independent-merchant acceptance. App connection, theme saving and subscription purchase are separate actions.
2. Protect customer content before enabling translation
Input, textarea and editable values remain unchanged. Displayed customer names, reviews and order notes need container exclusions in the native CSS field or the GoLocal project. Keep public labels outside those containers. Ask your developer for stable selectors rather than editing theme code blindly. Cart, checkout, account, password and theme-editor pages are outside this embed. Test your theme and review apps; this is not an all-themes guarantee.
GoLocal Localization → User-content exclusions (CSS) / GoLocal project → Widget Settings → Exclude from Translation
3. Translation Editor
Review AI wording in the Translation Editor. Manual corrections take priority over automatic translations. Open pages poll for updated translation bundles; changes appear asynchronously, not necessarily in the same second. A network failure keeps the original text visible instead of hiding it repeatedly.
4. Test before release
Switch English → French → English. Check menus, popups, delayed content and mobile layout. Type accented text into forms and rich-text editors, save and reopen it: the stored value must match. Check excluded customer names, selection values and filters. Edit one manual translation and confirm every matching visible instance updates. Test slow or failed requests: originals must remain visible.
5. Multilingual SEO
The widget changes the visible client-side interface. It does not create localized URLs, translate server-rendered HTML, checkout or email, or guarantee search rankings. For indexed language pages, use your platform’s native localization with dedicated URLs, self-canonicals and reciprocal hreflang. Do not run two translators over the same content.
6. Disable, resume and keep your translations
In the chosen theme, disable GoLocal in App embeds and save; fully reload already-open storefront pages. To resume, review consent and exclusions, enable the embed and save again. The project, cached translations and manual corrections remain. This is not hot-uninstall and does not cancel your GoLocal subscription. Revisit a translated page to check cache reuse; manual corrections use normal visible-tab polling, not guaranteed instant push.
Shopify → chosen theme → App embeds → GoLocal Localization → disable / enable → Save
