Joomla public-article preview — tested on Joomla 6.1.4

Website translation & localization for Joomla — Platform guide

Translate and localize public Joomla article bodies with GoLocal!, without changing your template. A real installable plugin and native demo are available; menus, outside-body titles and third-party components are not enabled in this preview.

Native Joomla system plugin

Connect Joomla in three clear steps

  1. Check compatibility and prepare your project

    Try the native demo first. Ask support to review your Joomla/PHP version, template, page cache and membership requirements before starting a trial or buying for this preview. In GoLocal, create or select a Website project, choose Joomla, register the exact published domain and set the original authored language. Copy its public site key—not a Joomla administrator, database or translation-provider secret.

  2. Upload the installable plugin

    Back up your staging site. Download the GoLocal Joomla ZIP below; do not extract it or edit theme files. In Joomla open System → Install → Extensions → Upload Package File and choose the ZIP. Wait for the success message. A first install is disabled by default. This is a direct plugin download, not a Joomla Extensions Directory listing.

  3. Configure, save and test logged out

    Open System → Manage → Plugins and find System - GoLocal! Website Translation & Localization. Paste the public key, review consent and exclusions, set both consent and public translation to Yes, set Status to Enabled, then Save. Open a published article in a logged-out/private window. Do not install a second generic loader.

Exact settings in the Joomla plugin

Public GoLocal project key
External translation service consent → Yes
Enable public article-body translation → Yes
Status → Enabled → Save
Additional user-content exclusions (CSS)
Optional public article ID allowlist

What is translated—and what is not?

Only eligible public com_content article bodies for anonymous visitors are translated. The plugin checks publication dates and every parent category. Admin, API, account, contact, search, edit, restricted and all signed-in views are excluded. A title or menu outside the article body stays original: that is expected. The optional article-ID list narrows eligible articles; it never grants access.

Protect client-entered content

A saved client name such as Travail à domicile must stay unchanged even when the interface source language is English. Mark the whole client-content container or add its CSS selector to Additional user-content exclusions (CSS). Input, textarea, Quill and contenteditable values stay unchanged. Exclusions include descendants. If your editor removes HTML attributes, ask a developer for a stable class; do not disable Joomla HTML filters globally.

Example: translate the interface, keep the client name

<span>Source name</span>
<span class="client-source-name">Travail à domicile</span>

/* Additional user-content exclusions (CSS): */
.client-source-name

<!-- Existing supported opt-outs, including descendants: -->
<div data-tr-skip>Client-entered content</div>
<div translate="no">Client-entered content</div>
<div class="notranslate">Client-entered content</div>

Manual corrections and repeated text

In GoLocal Translation Editor choose the exact project and language pair. Save a manual correction and check every eligible copy on the page. Visible online tabs poll about every 30 seconds; this is not instant push. Manual entries take priority over automatic translations. User-owned text should be excluded, not protected by repeatedly correcting translations.

Caching and connection checks

Reload and revisit the same language: cached phrases should be reused. New phrases or languages may need translation. A newly added domain may take several minutes to reach all configuration caches; a temporary Domain not authorized message is not a reason to expose secrets or widen domain access. Check the exact host, consent, Status and a logged-out article. For Copy file failed, ask the host to check normal Joomla file ownership; never use chmod 777.

Pause, uninstall and billing

Set Enable public article-body translation to No or set plugin Status to Disabled, Save and fully reload. If page/CDN cache is enabled, expire only your affected HTML and check that the loader/widget disappear. Do not purge translation pairs. Uninstall removes local plugin files/settings, not GoLocal translations, the project or its separate SaaS subscription. The plugin itself is free; manage subscription cancellation in GoLocal billing.

SEO and compatibility limits

Browser translation does not create localized URLs, hreflang or translated newsletters. The native demo and preview guide are noindex. Tests cover Joomla 6.1.4/PHP 8.3 and the Cassiopeia fixture, not Joomla 6.2, every template, custom ACL or third-party component. Keep existing native language routing separate and confirm your own staging result before production or payment.

Public embed key only. One pinned runtime 1.3.2 with integrity protection; no template loader or remote key validation in the editor. Unknown states fail closed. Preserve record IDs and option values. GoLocal Query is a Bubble element, not a Joomla requirement.
