Start safely, without replacing your theme
Try the native demo
Open Northline Journal and its Translation lab. Switch language, follow a tag and type in the test fields without submitting. This is a real Ghost 6.71.0 site, not a static mockup or a theme you must install.
Check your publication with support
Send your public site URL, Ghost version, theme name and whether you use memberships, paid posts or another localization system. Do not send passwords or API secrets. Ask before starting a trial or buying specifically for this preview.
Connect only after theme approval
After the public-only theme integration is prepared, select Ghost in your GoLocal project, register the published host and set the original authored language. The developer uses that project’s public embed key, never a Ghost Admin, database or AI-provider key.
What can be translated?
Eligible anonymous home, tag and author pages, plus explicitly public posts/pages. The reviewed theme marks one public container. Members-only, paid, unknown and authenticated-member views stay outside this preview—even when a member has access. A generic Site Footer script cannot establish those boundaries.
Protect people and their data
Keep newsletter forms, Portal, comments, customer names and other user-controlled text outside the public scope or excluded before collection. Input, textarea, Quill and contenteditable values stay unchanged. Exclusions also apply to descendants; mixed public/private containers need restructuring, not a wider scope.
Manual corrections and cache
In Translation Editor, choose the exact project and language pair. Save a manual correction and check every eligible occurrence. Visible online tabs poll for changes; this is not instant push. A warm revisit should reuse cached phrases; new text, languages or changed context can still require translation.
Check before going live
Keep a theme backup and test on staging. Check public navigation, filters, repeated manual edits, dynamic text, accented typing and a warm reload. Check private and paid pages separately. Never submit the demo forms. Our native demo tests do not certify your theme, a signed-in member session or mobile visual layout.
Pause, remove and billing
The reviewed developer theme has an explicit enable setting, off by default. To pause, turn it off, deploy/activate the updated theme as your host requires and reload. Verify no runtime, widget or service requests remain. Removing a script from an already-open page is not hot-uninstall. Disabling does not delete translations or cancel a GoLocal subscription.
Search visibility and current limits
Browser translation does not create crawlable localized URLs, hreflang or translated Ghost newsletters. The demo is intentionally noindex. No public marketplace app or universal no-code installer is offered here; independent-site, authenticated-member and mobile visual acceptance are still pending. Ask support to confirm suitability before paying.
For your theme developer — scope contract, not paste-and-go code
Merge the reviewed helper into the existing theme, not the whole Northline demo theme. Eligibility uses native page visibility and excludes @member; viewer access is not a public-content test. Keep one #golocal-ghost-public, the pinned runtime 1.3.2 with SRI, explicit consent and exclusions. Unknown states fail closed. These names describe our preview contract; they do not create settings in an arbitrary theme.
